How New Mexico taxes your paycheck

New Mexico uses tax brackets, so each rate applies only to the part of your taxable income inside that bracket. 2026 brackets:

RateSingleMarried filing jointly
1.5%$0 to $5,500$0 to $8,000
3.2%$5,500 to $16,500$8,000 to $25,000
4.3%$16,500 to $33,500$25,000 to $50,000
4.7%$33,500 to $66,500$50,000 to $100,000
4.9%$66,500 to $210,000$100,000 to $315,000
5.9%Over $210,000Over $315,000

Before the brackets apply:

  • Starts from the federal standard deduction: $16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly.
  • Deduction of $4,000 for each dependent after the first.

Federal taxes on every paycheck

Federal income tax is withheld using the IRS percentage method in Publication 15-T for 2026, based on your W-4. Social Security takes 6.2% of wages up to $184,500 a year, and Medicare takes 1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000. These are the same in every state.
