How Utah taxes your paycheck

Utah taxes wages at a flat 4.5%. Deductions and exemptions come off first:

  • A taxpayer credit lowers the tax for most low and middle incomes, then phases out.

Federal taxes on every paycheck

Federal income tax is withheld using the IRS percentage method in Publication 15-T for 2026, based on your W-4. Social Security takes 6.2% of wages up to $184,500 a year, and Medicare takes 1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000. These are the same in every state.
