How Missouri taxes your paycheck

Missouri uses tax brackets, so each rate applies only to the part of your taxable income inside that bracket. 2026 brackets:

RateTaxable income (all filers)
0%$0 to $1,348
2%$1,348 to $2,696
2.5%$2,696 to $4,044
3%$4,044 to $5,392
3.5%$5,392 to $6,740
4%$6,740 to $8,088
4.5%$8,088 to $9,436
4.7%Over $9,436

Before the brackets apply:

  • Starts from the federal standard deduction: $16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly.

Local taxes

Kansas City and St. Louis charge a 1% earnings tax. You can enter your exact local rate in the calculator.

Federal taxes on every paycheck

Federal income tax is withheld using the IRS percentage method in Publication 15-T for 2026, based on your W-4. Social Security takes 6.2% of wages up to $184,500 a year, and Medicare takes 1.45%, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000. These are the same in every state.
